Solar PV and Biomass Log Boiler Installation in Surrey

  • Biomass Log Boiler 60kW installation

  • 2 x 2,400ltr buffer tanks

  • Solar PV 4kWp installation

Colin and Sarah approached EnergyMyWay to explore renewable energy solutions for their property in order to reduce their reliance on traditional energy sources and address the inefficiency of the oil boiler in their old farmhouse. The couple was converting an old barn into holiday accommodation for walkers and needed an energy-efficient heating solution that would serve both properties effectively. They also sought a reliable, renewable way to generate electricity to support their growing energy needs.

Solution:

EnergyMyWay provided a comprehensive renewable energy system that catered to both heating and electricity generation requirements. The proposed solution included a 60kW Froling Biomass Log Gasification Boiler to provide heating and hot water, alongside a 4kW Viridian Solar PV system to generate electricity.

  1. Biomass Log Boiler (60kW):
The 60kW Froling Biomass Log Gasification Boiler was installed in an outbuilding, which was purpose-built to house the boiler and two 2,400-litre buffer tanks. This biomass boiler provides heating and hot water for both the old farmhouse and the barn conversion. The system is powered by logs, and with the large woodland area owned by Colin and Sarah, they are able to source their own fuel, ensuring the boiler operates with minimal ongoing cost.

  2. Non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI):
The system qualifies for the Non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), which provides a guaranteed income based on the amount of renewable heat generated. With an estimated £3,400 per year from RHI payments, the boiler system not only supports their heating needs but also delivers a steady income stream, further enhancing the cost-effectiveness of the installation.

  3. 4kW Solar PV System:
To meet the electrical demands of the property, 4kW of Viridian Solar PV panels were installed. The couple was particularly drawn to the large-scale design and high-quality finish of the Viridian PV30 panels, which are manufactured in Cambridge. This solar system generates renewable electricity, contributing to their overall energy savings and reducing reliance on grid power.

EnergyMyWay took care of the whole project from start to finish in a very efficient professional way and helped complete our RHI and FIT applications. I would recommend EnergyMyWay to anyone, they offer an impartial service to anyone looking to reduce their bills or make the most of renewable technologies.
