How It Works

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Homeowners installing solar PV and battery systems in owner-occupied or privately rented properties in England and Wales.

  • You can choose from 5 to 25 years before signing your agreement. In some cases the Hometree Finance £0 upfront option may not be available.

  • Hometree offer three upfront payment options: £0 and two larger amounts, up to 25% of your system installation value. This will be taken by direct debit alongside your first monthly payment, a few days after installation.

  • We will send you a personal link to apply alongside our quote. Hometree’s secure online application only takes a few minutes, won’t impact your credit score, and provides instant decisions in most cases. There’s no obligation to proceed once you’ve been approved.

  • The Hometree plans are available across a range of leading manufacturers. We will design an appropriate system, tailored to your property and energy usage.

  • As the Solar Plan is a lease, not a loan, you’re not paying down a borrowed sum plus interest. Your payments give you full use of the system, including all the benefits of the generation, storage, bill savings and export payments. You also get Hometree’s remote monitoring service, periodic on-site inspections, and unlimited repairs and replacement of the installed equipment for the plan lifetime – even if the manufacturer warranty has expired.

    Monthly payments are subject to an annual increase of 2.5% to reflect the increasing cost of maintaining the system over time. Hometree will always use manufacturer approved parts and pay fair market rates for skilled labour.

  • You can end your plan at any time by paying the settlement amount outlined in your agreement. If you’re selling your home, you can settle before marketing your property, or through your solicitor from the sale completion funds. Alternatively the buyer of your property can apply to take over the plan for the remaining term.

  • In your agreement you’ll find a table showing the settlement amount due in each year of your term. This will never be more than the system installation value minus any upfront payment, and it doesn’t include any surcharge for ending your plan early. As an example, for a £10,000 system where you chose to pay £1,250 upfront, the settlement amount in year one will be £8,750, and this figure will decrease in each subsequent year.

  • If you choose to upgrade your system Hometree will set you up with a new Solar Plan. Otherwise your plan will automatically end as per our terms.

    Hometree’s monitoring and maintenance service will end and no further payments will be due. Hometree will only remove the equipment from your home if you ask us to.
