Solar Panels No. 1 Choice for Home Improvement

southampton-solar-panels-installationSolar PV panels are the ?ideal? energy efficiency improvement to a home, according to a recent survey by the Energy Saving Trust.

Over 2,000 homeowners were asked what energy efficient improvement they would make to their home if money was no object.  Solar PV panels landed the top spot as the improvement that people most wanted, beating loft insulation and draught excluders to number one.  Indeed, 55% of those asked said that they would be more likely to consider buying or renting a property with renewable energy compared to a property without.

This is no surprise, with rising energy bills many of us are worried about the cost of running our homes.  According to the Energy Saving Trust, increasing energy bills and an ever growing number of household appliances have left people concerned that their energy costs are out of control.  Even so, this survey has revealed that many people are still unsure about the true cost of running their household appliances; 16% of those asked did not know the cost of running a fridge freezer for the year and 54% admitted to continuing to use their tumble dryer at least once a week even in the summer.

Richard Jones Director of Energy My Way in Lincolnshire said, ?This survey demonstrates that people are looking towards renewable energy as a solution to rising energy costs.  Installing solar panels can give a household a combined benefit of between £750 and £1000 per year and with the substantial fall in the cost of Solar PV installations are much more affordable.?

According to the survey, although 60% said that they were interested in installing renewable energy in their home, many people are still unaware of the schemes designed to help them install renewable energy.  55% of people who took part in this survey were unaware of the Feed-in Tariff and a staggering 83% failed to identify the Renewable Heat Incentive.

Richard comments that ?these are surprising statistics given the number of Solar PV installations that we continue to undertake in Lincoln itself but also in outlying towns and villages across Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire.  In the last few weeks we have installed Solar PV in Horncastle, Louth, Bardney and Chesterfield as well as in Lincoln itself.

?There is also an ever growing demand for Air Source Heat Pumps, Ground Source Heat Pumps and Biomass Boilers as the awareness of the Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive grows.?
