Renewable Energy: Carrying out surveys.

EnergyMyWay Oxford currently carry out anywhere between 4 and 6 domestic installations a month in Oxfordshire. We always carry out surveys and question our customers about what it is they expect their renewable energy installation to achieve. We are concerned by the number of companies who just want to create a sale rather than find the correct solution for their potential clients property.

We would rather turn a job down than install something which will not meet the clients expectations just for the sake of creating a sale. There are a couple of examples recently where we have been the 2nd or 3rd company in to provide a quote and we’ve told the home owner that they shouldn’t go ahead with a particular project. An example of this was for a young professional couple living in 2 bed house in central Oxford who were interested in a solar hot water system, they were out of the house all day, they had an electric shower and showered rather than take baths. A solar hot water system would have cost in the region of £4000 and would not have been a good investment, we informed them of this whereas the other companies they had received quotes from were only interested in closing the sale.

We have also come across similar things with ground source heat pumps – a ground source heat pump needs a very particular type of property for it to be effective, again we visited a house in Wheatly Oxfordshire where they had a ground source heat pump installed. The heat pump was totally wrong for the property (in this case it was a draughty 1930’s semi without a sufficiently large garden for the pipes), in this case it was too late and we could only advise them to contact the company that installed the heat pump and ask them to uninstall as it was just never going to work.

At EnergyMyWay we pride ourselves on finding the right solution for you and your property, we believe that if we give our clients the correct information about renewable energy technologies and make sure their expectations of what can be achieved are realistic the sales will follow.
