The EMMA has been developed by Coolpower in Dublin and it optimises where the electricity you generate from either a sloar pv, wind turbine is used in your house so you get the maximum benefit which equates to a better return on your investment. In simple terms it works by instead of exporting electricity to the grid for 3p / kw it will use it to heat your hot water (typically via an immersion heater) which you’d be paying 15p / kw. EMMA can be retro fitted or more commonly installed at the same time you have your PV array installed. The cost of an EMMA system is approximately £1,500 – £1,800 and payback around 6 years.
