Government to ‘mobilise the mid-scale solar market’ in 2014

In a speech to the Solar Trade Association on 12th December, Energy and climate change minister, Greg Barker has promised to take action to enable more roof-top solar for domestic, mid-scale commercial and community generation.

The minister made strong reference to ?turning our large buildings into power stations? and mounting a genuine challenge to the big six energy companies.

?I want to drive my ambition of a challenge to the big six energy companies that doesn’t come from one or two more competitors but actually comes from the creation of an energy sector of the big 60,000.”

In order to do this Barker promises to, ?Sweep aside unnecessary regulatory barriers to on-site generation.?

EnergyMyWay welcomes this support for roof-top solar as it reinforces our view that the property stock in the UK has huge potential to produce enough solar energy to play a significant role in forcing down the costs of energy bills.

Solar PV is the UK?s most popular form of alternative energy, The latest results of DECC?s public attitudes tracker show that solar continues to be the most popular generation technology in the UK, with 81% of those surveyed expressing support for the deployment of solar across the UK.
