After much deliberation Greg Barker the UK Energy and Climate Change Minister announced that the Feed-in Tariff for large 50kW commercial installs will be reduced for installs being commissioned after August 1st 2011.
A 50kW installation would require approximately 400 square meters of space, consist of 200 solar panels or more and cost in the region of £150,000. Existing 50kw + installations will not be effected by this reduction.
From August, new installations will receive 19p per kWh for installations of 50-150kW, 15p/kWh for those 150-250kW and 8.5p/kWh for 250kW-5MW and stand-alone installations.
Currently, the rates are 32.9p/kW per hour for installations 10kW-100kW and 30.7/kWh for 100kw-5MW and stand-alone installations.
This reduction should ensure the future of the Feed-in Tariff for those who are planning smaller solar PV installations. The typical size of a domestic installation is between 3 and 4kW comprising of between 10 and 20 panels.
