Cornwall Council Gives The Go Ahead to Solar Park

Councillors in Cornwall have given the go ahead for a 25 acre “solar park” which should produce 5MW (5 million watts) of electricity which is approximately the same as 2000 – 2500 domestic PV installations would produce.

The project is being funded by the Foresight Group, a British venture capitalists group, who estimate the cost of building the farm to be between £10m and £12m.  There are concerns that solar farms will accelerate the up take of feed in tariffs and benefit investment firms rather than private domestic householders which the scheme was intended for.  There have been suggestions that planning laws may be changed to prevent large solar farms being set up in the future.
