Boiler Upgrade Scheme – now open

Boiler Upgrade Scheme – the RHI replacement now open

The Renewable Heat Incentive which provided financial support for heat pump and biomass boilers closed at the end of March 2022.  The scheme has been replaced by the much anticipated Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS).

The key differences about the schemes is that the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) used to calculated based on the heat demand of your property and the efficiency of the renewable technology installed.   The RHI was paid out over 7 years.  The new scheme is a one off payment paid within weeks of the renewable heating system being commissioned.  The Boiler Upgrade Scheme pays homeowners a £5,000 grant for an air source heat pump and a £6,000 grant for a ground source heat pump or biomass boiler provided that the schemes criteria have been met.

The grants are available to renewable heating installations that have been commissioned after the 1st April 2022 and the BUS opened this week for funding applications.
