Renewable Heat Incentive non-Domestic rate announced for January 2015
The government has confirmed that it will continue to reward businesses who switch to biomass boiler heating systems in 2015. The Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has announced the non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive rates for the period starting on 1 January 2015 with only a 10% reduction on the current rates.
This is good news for anyone considering installing a biomass boiler in the new year, as rates remain high and returns on an investment in biomass remain healthy.
Example returns from a Biomass Boiler at the January 2015 rate
The tier 1 rate from Jan 1st will be 6.8p per kWh of heat your biomass boiler produces. Tier 1 is the rate you are paid for the first 1,314 run hours your boiler operates in a year. Beyond that you are paid the tier 2 rate of 1.8p per kWh.
As an example, if you install a 100kW biomass boiler in January, you can expect to gain around £10,000 per year for 20 years in combined Renewable Heat Incentive payments and heating bill savings (compared to oil). That’s a total of £200,000 onto your bottom line simply for changing your heating system.
Who qualifies for the non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive?
The non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive applies to businesses and renewable heat installations heating more than one property, including community district heating systems. For homeowners heating a single property, the Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive applies. To qualify for Renewable Heat Incentive payments you must use an MCS accredited installer such as EnergyMyWay.
