60% of UK homeowners would consider Solar Panels – new survey reveals

Solar PV panels on an Essex family roof

Up to 60% of homeowners in the UK, who don?t already have solar panels, have stated they would consider going solar in the next five years, according to research published by Mintel.

The research company questioned 1,219 UK homeowners and support for switching to solar was revealed to be high, with the most likely group to install Solar PV being those with a household income of £50,000 and above.

Of the 40% who indicated that they would not install solar in the next five years, 30% believed that their property was not suitable for a solar array. The next most popular reason for not wanting to install solar was concerns over the maintenance and replacement costs of a potential solar array, with 29% expressing concerns. A further 8% understood that due to their absence during the day, PV-generated electricity would not provide them the greatest benefit.

At EnergyMyWay we are delighted that solar is a popular choice for homeowners because it represents a growing understanding that solar panels are an easy, reliable way to reduce carbon emissions, slash energy bills and earn an income from the Feed-in Tariff.

Solar Panels work on most roofs

The research also highlights a need for more education about property suitability, for example most solar panels perform extremely well on East and West facing roofs and there are many homeowners who live in suitable properties for solar panels, but may not be aware they can benefit.

Solar panels have very few moving parts and require very little maintenance. At EnergyMyWay we have installed thousands of solar panels on UK homes and businesses and we have never had to replace a system.

Historically solar panels have given the greatest benefit to those who can use their solar electricity during daylight hours, however the new generation of solar batteries represent an exciting new development; designed to store your solar energy so you can use it any time, day or night.

While the research is great news for solar, it also highlights that many homeowners will be living in properties that are perfect for solar panels, but don’t know it.
