Return is calculated using combined bill savings and subsidy earnings. Bill savings are calculated using estimated energy usage and either the electricity price at the time of installation (19 November, 2013) or, for our heating products, the existing fuel type available to the property.

Puddleduck Valley owner Mr Thompson was looking for an alternative to the expensive LPG currently heating their newly purchased 5-bedroom farmhouse. Acreage allowed for a plentiful supply of logs so they were able to generate their own renewable fuel and save even more on their bills. They were also looking to heat a barn converted to a holiday let, a shower block to serve holiday yurts in an adjoining field and in future and a second barn to be converted.

A 60 kW ETA SH log boiler with 3000 litre buffer tank was installed in the corner of a large barn with heat mains supplying the house and the newly converted barn and shower block. The heat main was extended to the unconverted barn and capped off for future use.

Using renewable energy in this way saves the owners £6,200 per year on their heating bill and the Renewable Heat Incentive rewards them with a further £6,600 per year. Added to the huge savings, the holiday business can now claim a cleaner, greener energy ethos.
