Return is calculated using combined bill savings and subsidy earnings. Bill savings are calculated using estimated energy usage and either the electricity price at the time of installation (11 November, 2013) or, for our heating products, the existing fuel type available to the property.

This small holding, requiring extensive renovation, consists of a four-bedroom farmhouse, a barn conversion, a large agricultural barn, a delapidated stable block and several other outbuildings. The owner approached EnergyMyWay looking for an environmentally and cost effective approach to heating.

A 70 kW ETA Hack woodchip boiler with 2200 litre buffer tank was installed in the large agricultural barn with a 30m3 fuel store. Heat mains run to the farmhouse and converted barn. The boiler was sized to allow heating to be extended to other buildings in future. A flue gas recirculation unit was also fitted as the customer has plans to grow and chip their own miscanthus at some point.

Thanks to the government’s non-domestic Renewable Heat Incentive, this Biomass Boiler will pay for itself in less than 6 years and earn the farm £10,000 a year in combined fuel savings and incentive income.
